Licenses

Wandelbots NOVA licenses are assigned to your NOVA account and activated from NOVA Cloud. Learn about the license types, their limits, seats, and how activation works for cloud and on-premise instances.
A Wandelbots NOVA license is bound to a user and that user’s organization, and it is assigned to a NOVA account by Wandelbots Customer Success. The license defines how many instances and robots you can run, and for how long.
Without a license you can install and access Wandelbots NOVA, but you cannot use virtual robot controllers or connect robots to it.

Seats
Licensed seats follow the role a user holds in the organization:
- Admins and Developers require licensed seats.
- Operators do not consume paid seats.
Robot licenses define which systems can run in production. See Roles and permissions for what each role may do, and the guide on managing licenses and assigning roles for the end-to-end team setup.
Activation
Activating or deactivating a license requires internet access.
Get the license assigned
- Create a NOVA account and log in to NOVA Cloud.
- Provide the account email to your Customer Success Manager.
In the sidebar, the lock icon next to the cloud instance tab is now gone.
Activate for cloud instances
- Open the
Cloud instancestab and create a new cloud instance.
You’ll be prompted to activate your license. - Confirm the activation.
Activation is required only once for cloud usage.
Activate for virtual machines and industrial PCs
Installing Wandelbots NOVA on a VM or bare-metal server prompts you to activate the license as part of the installation. Follow Install Wandelbots NOVA and Activate a device.
Transferring a license
A license cannot be transferred to another NOVA account. It can be moved between instances: deactivate it on the current instance first, which frees up an instance slot. Deactivation runs on the instance itself, see License management on your instance.

Checking your license
Two views on the same license data:
- In NOVA Cloud, your account shows the licenses assigned to it.
- On the instance, the system settings and the License helper app show the license attributes, usage limits, activation status, and the offline grace period. See License management on your instance.
Restrictions
- Licenses cannot be paused or suspended. Contact Customer Success for custom arrangements.
- Some embargoed countries cannot use a NOVA license. If you travel and suspect restrictions, contact your Customer Success contact person.
- An expired license produces an
Access deniederror when opening the instance.
